For nearly two decades, Abigail Zelenski has focused extensively on labor-and-employment matters. She has successfully represented clients in matters involving a wide variety of causes of action, including claims under the California Labor Code, the Private Attorneys General Act (PAGA), the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), the California Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA), the Federal Family Leave Act (FMLA), and the California Family Rights Act (CFRA).
Throughout her career, Abigail has been appointed as class counsel in over forty class actions, recovering millions on behalf of employees, including those in the motion-picture, security, healthcare, food, retail, and banking industries, as well as on behalf of the State of California Labor and Workforce Development Agency.
Abigail is well-versed in matters involving claims of unpaid wages, unpaid overtime, missed meal and rest breaks, improper pay stubs, misclassification issues, harassment, discrimination, and wrongful termination, and provides effective representation to her clients. Abigail also provides employment advice and counsel with respect to handbooks, policies, procedures, and risk mitigation.
Abigail has been selected as a Super Lawyer for nine years in a row. In 2019, 2020, and again for 2021, she was selected as a Southern California Super Lawyer, an honor given to only 5% of attorneys in California. For the six previous years—2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018—she was recognized as a Southern California Super Lawyers Rising Star, a distinction given to no more than 2.5% of the lawyers in California. Abigail was also recognized as a Top Attorney by Pasadena Magazine in 2014, 2015, 2019, and 2021.
In 2019, the Los Angeles City Council confirmed Abigail's appointment by the Los Angeles Mayor to sit as a Commissioner on the inaugural Los Angeles Civil and Human Rights Commission. The Commission manages and advises on anti-discrimination efforts, provides remedies to such discrimination, promulgates policies and regulations, and also makes recommendations to the Mayor and the City Council.
Believing the importance of community involvement, Abigail sits on the Board of Advisors of the non-profit organization Search to Involve Pilipino Americans, which provides various services to youths, seniors, and small-business owners in the Los Angeles community. She was the past Vice President of the Board and a Board Member of the Filipino American Library and Filipino American Heritage Institute, from 2001 to 2008. Abigail serves as the 2021 President of the Philippine American Bar Association, where she has served on the Board of Governors since 2016. In October 2012, Abigail was elected by Los Angeles City residents to the Governing Board of the Silver Lake Neighborhood Council, where she served her term through April 2014.
Abigail earned her J.D. at the UCLA School of Law. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Southern California, magna cum laude, with a B.A. in Political Science and academic minors in Business Administration and Law & Society.
